The Water Abundance XPRIZE is a $1.75 million competition with a global participation of 98 teams, challenging teams to alleviate the global water crisis with energy-efficient technologies that harvest fresh water from air.
Teams will need to generate fresh water by creating a device that extracts a minimum of 2,000 liters of water per day from the atmosphere using 100% renewable energy, at a cost of no more than 2 cents per liter.
Teams will compete in two rounds:
Round One Testing:
Round 1 testing will last approximate for 3 days at suitable location,Demonstrate a functional prototype in operation under field conditions.
No specific power, output, efficiency requirements for this round, but evidence must provided to the Judging Panel of your ability to achieve the competition goals.
Up to five teams will be selected by the Judging Panel to proceed to Round 2.
Round Two Testing:
Full demonstration under field conditions
Complete cost calculations –manufacturing, maintenance, and consumable materials –required.
Solution must produce at least 2,000 liters of fresh water daily at a cost of less than USD $0.02 per liter.
Judging will take into account cost/liter, portability, and suitability to varied weather conditions.
Detailed scoring criteria will be published in the Rules and Regulations prior to the start of Round 2.
Total cost of ownership for 10 years.
